Today during its annual general meeting (AGM), Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) showcased its fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service and gave us some more information about it.
Jio Fiber services will start on 5 September. The base package costs at 700 and provides speeds of 100Mbps.
The service was announced on August 12 last year, but Telco did not reveal details such as data plans and real-time data speeds. Jio introduced the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) service to those adopting it with the GigaFiber preview offer, but the service has a capped top speed of 100Mbps, rather than the 1Gbps speed promised during last year’s unveiling.

The top-of-the-line package costs around the 10,000 per month. This package provides 1 Gbps speed.
All Jio Fiber plans allow access to broadband, fixed line, Jio HomeTV and Jio’s IoT services.
Voice calling will be free for any Indian operator, Ambani announced at RIL’s 42nd AGM. Ambani said, “ISD calling tariff will be at industry rates of 1 / 5th to 1 / 10th. We are offering unlimited US / Canada packs at Rs.500 / month.”
Ambani has also introduced a Jio Forever plan that will give users HD or 4k LED television and 4k set-top box for free.

Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani said the network speed is between 100Mbps and 1Gbps. He also spoke on various applications of the service ranging from digital TV to cloud gaming.
Reliance also talked about its Mixed Reality (MR) startup Tesract. MR has many use cases including virtual shopping, education and movies. The Tesseract VR headset was also showcased.
Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that Jio is contracting 10 million new customers every month.
He also spoke about the readiness of Jio Infocomm hardware and the tremendous reception of Jio Fiber by early adopters.
“The core and aggregation layers of our integrated network are already 5G ready. Our wireless hardware is already 4G + and can be upgraded to 5G,” he said.
According to Reliance, Jio Fiber’s preview service garnered interest from 15 million people in 1,600 cities. Ambani said the services are planned to reach more than 20 mill houses in 15 mill businesses in 1,600 cities. 5 lakh homes are on trial plans and each of these is using more than 100GB of data.
Ambani said, “America has an average internet speed of 90Mbps. Our base plan provides high speed.”
Reliance Jio is also eyeing enterprise customers including small and medium businesses (SMBs) and large businesses with service.
Ambani said “Jio Fiber will enable 2.4 mil SMBs with high speed data connectivity”.
